NSE data showed that Vedanta Iron and Steel shares declined 5% to hit the intraday low and lower circuit level of ₹26.56 apiece on Wednesday’s market, in comparison to ₹27.95 apiece at the previous equity market close.

After opening at the lower circuit level, the Vedanta Group stock recovered some of its early losses but was trading 3.7% lower at around ₹26.73 apiece on October 28, with trading activity surpassing 3.8 million shares across NSE and BSE combined.

Why are Vedanta Iron shares falling today?

Vedanta Iron and Steel shares were falling on Wednesday’s market as the contraction in overall net losses failed to impress investors against the backdrop of revenue decline and rising input costs in the September quarter of FY 2026-27.

NSE filings showed that Vedanta Iron and Steel recorded a contraction in overall consolidated net losses in the July to September quarter of FY27 to ₹324 crore, from ₹477 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

The company’s revenue from core operations declined 2.4% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹2,788 crore, in comparison to ₹2,858 crore in the same quarter of the previous financial year, as per the consolidated statements.

Vedanta’s management attributed the subdued quarterly performance to the impact of seasonal disruptions in iron ore production and the elevated input costs in the period under review.

“Quarterly performance was affected by seasonal disruptions in iron ore production, planned plant shutdowns and higher input and conversion costs. These factors weighed on operating profitability during the quarter,” said Vedanta Iron and Steel in its official statement.

Data showed that the company’s raw material cost increased 9.2% YoY to ₹1,714 crore in the September quarter of FY27, in comparison to ₹1,569 crore in the same period a year earlier.

Segment revenues

While the revenues from iron ore production declined in the July to September quarter, the steel production revenues surged in the same period, as per the exchange filing.

Iron ore production revenues declined 8.3% YoY to ₹638 crore in the Q2 results, in comparison to ₹696 crore in the same period a year earlier.

In contrast, Vedanta Iron and Steel’s revenues from steel production surged 17% to ₹2,488 crore in the September quarter, in comparison to ₹2,125 crore in the same period a year earlier.

Shares up 27% YTD

After the company’s demerger from Vedanta Limited, the company was listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on June 15, 2026. On a year-to-date (YTD) basis since listing, the stock has risen more than 27%.

However, in the near term, Vedanta Iron and Steel shares have declined 14.3% in the last one-month period and have lost 4.2% in the past five market sessions, according to the exchange data.

The company’s market capitalisation (m-cap) was at ₹10,393 crore as of the trading session on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
