Vedanta Aluminium Metal shares advanced as much as 2% to ₹444.65 apiece on the NSE on Friday, August 21, as the prominent aluminium producer in India expanded its automotive solutions portfolio on Thursday by launching two advanced offerings under its best-selling Primary Foundry Alloy (PFA) range.
These include the Copper-Doped Alloy, developed for high-performance automotive applications, and the Vedanta Foundry Alloy (VFA), a versatile material for enhanced durability, developed in collaboration with IIT Delhi.
The two innovations represent a new frontier in the development of next-generation automotives, enabling lighter, safer, and more efficient vehicles fuelling new possibilities in the automotive sector, the press release said.
"The two offerings were unveiled to top representatives from India’s leading automotive companies and advanced component manufacturers at AutoEdge 2026, Vedanta Aluminium’s exclusive conclave for the automotive industry. Now in its second edition, the conclave featured a series of engaging panel discussions, technical presentations, and expert insights into future industry trends," the company said.
Vedanta Aluminium said the two new offerings have been specifically developed to meet the automotive industry's growing need for vehicles that are lighter, more efficient, and built to perform under demanding conditions.
The Copper-Doped Alloy leverages the strengthening properties of copper to enhance durability, wear resistance, and performance at higher operating temperatures, making it particularly suitable for critical engine, transmission, and powertrain components.
Meanwhile, the Vedanta Foundry Alloy combines lightweighting with higher strength, improved corrosion resistance, and enhanced casting performance, making it suitable for a wide range of conventional and electric vehicle applications.
The aluminium major said it is poised to become the world’s largest primary billet producer with a capacity of 1.25 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), on completion of the ongoing capacity expansion at the BALCO plant in Korba, Chhattisgarh.
The company is also India’s largest PFA producer with an existing capacity of 380 kilo tonnes per annum (KTPA). Its automotive portfolio comprises of PFA offerings used in alloy wheels, cylinder heads, engine components and other automotive castings, along with specialised billets for HVAC applications and crash-resistant engineering applications.
In addition, it is expanding the share of value-added products in its portfolio to 90%, driven by the increasing demand for high quality, sustainably produced aluminium in India and globally.
Rajesh Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “India’s automotive industry is rapidly evolving, creating demand for lighter, stronger and more sophisticated material solutions.
