NSE data showed that Tata Elxsi shares surged 8.2% after the opening bell to touch an early market high of ₹3,710 apiece on Wednesday’s market, in comparison to ₹3,426.70 apiece at the previous equity market close.

Trading volumes surpassed 15 lakh equity shares as of the morning deals, marking a nearly 3 times increase in investor activity in comparison to the one-week average of 5,13,300 equity shares, as per the exchange data.

Tata Elxsi’s stock was rallying on Wednesday’s market due to the high-volume gains as the overall trading activity surged 3.3 times more than the two-week average trading volume of 4,52,963 equity shares.

Flat profit growth in Q2

Despite the increase in revenues and improvement in margins on a sequential basis during the July to September quarter of FY27, Tata Elxsi posted an overall flat net profit growth due to the overall increase in employee costs and other expenses in the period.

NSE filings showed that Tata Elxsi recorded a flat net profit after tax at ₹170.2 crore in the Q2 results, in comparison to ₹170.6 crore in the previous quarter.

However, on a year-on-year (YoY) basis, the profits jumped 10% to its second-quarter level, from ₹154.81 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.

The design and technology services company’s revenue from core operations advanced 3.4% QoQ to ₹1,056 crore in the September quarter, from ₹1,021 crore in the previous quarter of the current fiscal year, surpassing market estimates.

Tata Elxsi’s operating profit or earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) rose to ₹208 crore in Q2 FY27, compared to ₹194 crore in the first quarter of FY27. On the margin front, the company recorded a 70 basis points expansion to 19.7%, from 19% on a quarter-on-quarter basis.

Did earnings beat expectations?

Experts from global investment firm JP Morgan said that Tata Elxsi’s Q2 earnings surpassed the estimates on both revenue and margins with the help of the company’s overall growth across business verticals, large deals, and new deal wins in the period under review.

“Positive surprise on growth came from deal wins in Auto in US and India even as EU Auto remains under pressure,” said JP Morgan analysts reviewing the Q2 performance.

The experts also said that the company’s EBIT margin growth was a positive surprise, with the one-time headwinds of Q1 largely reversed in the September quarter of FY27.

“Incrementally from here, the company expects margins to expand gradually over the next few quarters, indicating it will take longer to get back to Q4 FY26 margin levels of 22%,” the analysts said.

With overall margins outpacing the earlier company recovery guidance of the second and third quarters of the current fiscal year, and with key support from the foreign exchange rates in the market, investors were powering the gains in Tata Elxsi’s stock on October 14.
