The Indian equity benchmarks are set to open lower on Friday, August 7, as indicated by GIFT NIFTY futures. NIFTY futures at GIFT City in Gandhinagar fell 87 points to 24,652 amid subdued cues from Asian markets.
The Indian equity benchmarks rose for a second straight session on Thursday as investor sentiment remained positive on easing geopolitical tensions in West Asia after Iran and Oman reached an understanding over a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz.
The SENSEX ended at the day's highest level, rising 374 points to close at 78,955 and NIFTY50 index advanced 11 points to close at 24,636 led by gains in index heavyweights like Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Eternal, Bharat Electronics, Titan and Bharti Airtel.
Asian markets were trading lower ahead of US jobs data that could prove pivotal for next month's US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision and oil prices rose amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
Japan's Nikkei fell 0.92%, China's Shanghai Composite advanced 0.3%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 0.1% and South Korea's KOSPI dropped 1%.
Wall Street witnessed a bearish trend on Thursday, with all three major indexes closing in the negative territory.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average, snapping its 5-day winning streak, lost 0.85% to settle at 53,885.10. The S&P 500 slipped 0.18% to 7,709.96, while the NASDAQ Composite ended flat with negative bias at 26,348.35, down 0.06%.
Shares of chipmaker Sandisk Corp tumbled 6.81% after the company's earnings failed to impress investors. The company has given a revenue guidance of between $10.3 billion and $10.8 billion for the September quarter, which is at the midpoint below the analysts' expectations of $10.8 billion.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹18 crore on Thursday while domestic institutional investors bought stocks worth ₹4013.60 crore, as per NSE data.

The company's revenue from operations advanced 36% to ₹12,999 crore in April-June period from₹9,579 crore a year earlier.
Addressing the company's Annual General Meeting (AGM), Puri said the hospitality major will continue to pursue an asset-right growth strategy while investing in new properties and expanding its footprint through management contracts and acquisitions.
Dabur's senior counsel mentioned the matter for listing before a bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia.
The petition is listed for hearing on Friday before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma.
The company had posted a consolidated profit after tax (PAT) of ₹267 crore in the corresponding period last fiscal, Fortis Healthcare Ltd said in a regulatory filing.
Consolidated revenue was up 17.5% at ₹2,545 crore in the first quarter as against ₹2,167 crore in the year-ago period, it added.
