The Indian equity benchmarks extended gains in noon deals on Wednesday, September 23, as investor sentiment remained upbeat tracking a drop in crude prices in global markets.
The SENSEX rose as much as 445 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 23,467 led by gains in index heavyweights like Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Finance, Reliance Industries, Tata Steel, HDFC Bank, ITC and Bharti Airtel.
As of 12:14 pm, the SENSEX was up 420 points at 74,949 and NIFTY50 index advanced 127 points to 23,456.
Trading volume in the stock jumped by 101.6 times to 2.02 crore shares compared with an average volume of 1.99 lakh shares on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
As many as 10.62 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 18,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.
Trading volume on the NSE jumped 17 times to 20.93 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 1.21 lakh shares.
A total of 89,000 shares changed hands on the BSE compared with its two-week average of 14,000 shares.

Brent Crude futures fell nearly 1% to $98.27 per barrel.
