“Dr Reddy’s Laboratories has secured FDA tentative approval for the first generic injectable lenacapavir, just 16 months after a Gilead’s originator product was approved for HIV prevention,” according to the official release.

The company will be looking forward to bringing an affordable version of generic injectable lenacapavir, which will be used twice a year for HIV prevention.

With this affordable version Dr Reddy’s aims to bring the drug to 120 low-and middle-income countries, with initial supplies expected to reach countries by the end of 2026.

“For people at risk of HIV infection, this means a long-acting injectable prevention option that doesn’t require a daily pill, at a price in line with oral PrEP, a key condition for uptake in low- and middle-income countries,” as per the Unitaid press release.

NSE data showed that Dr Reddy’s shares ended 0.74% lower at ₹1,342 apiece after Monday’s trading session, in comparison to ₹1,352 apiece at the previous equity market close.
