The Muslim community decided to hold the Eid-e-Milad procession in Mumbai on September 8, as Anant Chaturdashi falls on September 6.

The Maharashtra government on Thursday, September 4, announced that the public holiday for Eid-e-Milad in Mumbai city and suburban districts will be observed on September 8, instead of September 5.

While Eid-e-Milad is falling on September 5 this year, and schools and banks are closed in many states today, the Muslim community decided to hold the Eid-e-Milad procession in Mumbai on September 8, as Anant Chaturdashi falls on September 6. Anant Chaturdashi marks the end of the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival and is the day when Ganesh idols are immersed in water following public processions.

“While the holiday on September 5 will remain unchanged for other districts in the state, it has been shifted to September 8 in Mumbai city and suburbs,” the General Administration Department (GAD) stated in a circular on Thursday.

“Government offices in Mumbai city and suburbs will remain open as usual on September 5,” it added.

Money market and banking operations will be closed in Mumbai on September 8.

However, stock markets in India will remain open.

There will be no transactions and settlements in government securities (G-Sec), foreign exchange, money markets and rupee interest rate derivatives on September 08, 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on September 4.
