Stock Market Holidays in March: The two stock exchanges, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange), will remain open during the festivals of Gudi Padwa, Ugadi and Chaitra Navratri.

Gudi Padwa, the Marathi New Year, and Ugadi, the Telugu and Kannada New Year, fall on Thursday, March 19, this year. The Indian stock market will remain open for trading tomorrow.

The bourses will also remain open on the occasion of Chaitra Navratri, the nine-day-long Hindu festival, which will be celebrated from March 19 to March 27.

Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramadan Eid) falls on March 21, which is a Saturday, and the exchanges remain closed for trading on the weekends.

Trading holidays in March 2026

The stock market remained shut for trading on March 3 on the occasion of Holi.

The exchanges will also remain closed on Thursday, March 26, on the occassion of Shri Ram Navami, and on Tuesday, March 31, on account of Shri Mahavir Jayanti.

Before March, the stock market had observed a holiday on two different occasions in 2026. Once on January 15 for the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Election day, and a second one on January 26 on account of Republic Day.

Out of the 16 holidays in calendar year 2026 (CY26), 13 trading holidays remain.

Furthermore, three festivals, including Id-Ul-Fitr, Independence Day and Diwali Laxmi Pujan, fall on the weekend.

Bank Holidays on Thursday, March 19

Banks in some Indian states will observe a holiday on Thursday, March 19, to celebrate the Gudhi Padwa and Ugadi.

The states include Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Jammu & Kashmir, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Srinagar, and Manipur.
