Trading holiday during Diwali 2025: NSE and BSE to remain closed; check dates, time and more

Diwali 2025: The festival of lights, Diwali, kicks off in less than a week with Dhanteras on Saturday, October 18. In view of the festivities, the Indian stock exchanges, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE, will observe multiple trading holidays during the week.

The exchanges will be closed on October 21, on the eve of Diwali Laxmi Pujan, with a special one-hour Muhurat trading session scheduled during the day. The bourses will also remain shut on October 22 for Balipratipada.

Since Dhanteras falls on a Saturday, the markets will also be closed that day, as trading does not take place on weekends. Regular trading will resume on Monday, October 20.

Muhurat trading date and time

As per the circular on the NSE and BSE, the stock markets will open on Tuesday, October 21, for a special one-hour trading session.

The bourses will be open for trading between 1:45 and 2:45 pm, with trade modifications ending at 2:55 pm.
