Gandhi Jayanti is a national holiday in India, celebrated every year on October 2 to mark the birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, a key leader in the Indian independence movement.

There will be no trading in equity, derivatives, or securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments, and normal trading will resume on Monday, October 5.

The market, usually open Monday to Friday from 9.15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., will be closed on Friday, marking a long weekend. This is the 12th stock market holiday of the 2025-26 calendar year (CY26).

Trading holidays in October

The Gandhi Jayanti holiday is the first trading holiday of October. The bourses will also remain closed on Tuesday, October 20, on account of Dussehra.

In the month of November, the stock exchanges will remain closed on two days (excluding weekends), including November 10 for Diwali-Balipratipada and November 24 for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev.

Investors should note that November 8 is also a trading holiday on account of Diwali Laxmi Pujan. However, Muharat trading, which is a special one-hour trading session, will be conducted on that day.

Following that, the bourses will be shut on Friday, December 25, on account of Christmas, marking the last trading holiday of the calendar year.
