Guru Nanak Jayanti 2025: NSE, BSE to remain closed on this day in November

For the current year, only two NSE holidays are left, November 5 and December 25.

Stock markets in India, NSE and BSE, will remain shut on Wednesday, November 5, on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti.

As per the National Stock Exchange (NSE) calendar, stock market operations will be closed on November 5 for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev. Hence, there will be no stock market transactions, including in equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing and currency derivatives.

For the current year, only two NSE holidays are left, November 5 and December 25 (Christmas). Stock markets in India also stay closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji Jayanti significance

Also known as Gurpurab or Prakash Parv, Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrates the birth anniversary of the first Guru and founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev. It honours his life, teachings and legacy. It is observed on the day of Kartik Purnima, the full moon day of the month of Kartik (which usually falls in November).

This is one of the most sacred celebrations in Sikhism and includes prayers, processions, community feasts and acts of service to commemorate Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings of equality, compassion and devotion.

Will MCX remain open on November 5?

Trading on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed in the morning session, between 9 am and 5 pm. During the evening session, between 5 pm and 11:30 pm/11:55 pm, trading operations will continue as usual.

Bank holiday on Guru Nanak Dev Ji Jayanti

Banks will remain shut on November 5 for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev, Kartika Purnima and Rahas Purnima in many Indian states, including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Nagaland, West Bengal, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh.

In November, banks will be closed for five days across many Indian states. However, online banking and UPI services will function as usual. ATMs will also remain open for cash withdrawals on these holidays.
