The stock markets in India are closed despite March 31 being the final day of the financial year ending 2025-26 due to Mahavir Jayanti, which is also known as Mahaveer Janma Kalyanak. Mahavir Jayanti is an important festival for the Jain community that commemorates the birth of Lord Mahavir on this day.

The benchmark indices will reopen for normal trading operations on the first day of the upcoming financial year 2026-27 on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Along with the Indian stock market, the commodity market exchange, Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX), will also witness partial closure on March 31, during the morning trading session from 9 am to 5 pm.

The MCX will reopen for trading during Tuesday’s evening market session from 5 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm, according to the exchange data. However, on Friday, MCX will remain closed for both sessions due to the Good Friday holiday.
