NSE filings showed that ICICI Bank’s net profit after tax (PAT) increased 20.1% to ₹14,843 crore in the second quarter of FY27, in comparison to ₹12,359 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.

The institutional lender’s interest income advanced 17.6% to ₹49,110 crore in the September quarter, from ₹41,757 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year, as per the exchange filings.

ICICI Bank’s net interest income (NII) improved by 17.7% YoY to ₹25,339 crore in Q2 FY27, compared to ₹21,529 crore in the second quarter of FY26.

Despite the increase in interest income, the lender’s net interest margin (NIM) declined 12 basis points to 4.18%, from 4.30% in the same quarter of the previous financial year. The expenses increased 14% in the Q2 earnings report.

Data showed that ICICI Bank shares are set to remain in the focus of investors on Monday, October 19, as the company filed its September quarter earnings for the financial year 2026-27.

After Friday’s trading session, ICICI Bank share price ended 0.55% higher at ₹1,397 apiece, in comparison to ₹1,389.40 apiece at the previous equity market close, according to NSE data.

Asset quality review

The institutional lender’s asset quality, or gross non-performing assets (NPAs), improved by 38 basis points to 1.20% in the September quarter of FY27, in comparison to 1.58% in the September quarter of the previous financial year.

“The Bank has written-off gross NPAs amounting to ₹ 1,592 crore (US$ 166 million) in Q2-2027. The provisioning coverage ratio on non-performing loans was 75.0% as of September 30, 2026,” as per the official statement.

On the provisions front, ICICI Bank’s provision for bad loans declined nearly 7% to ₹850.69 crore in the second quarter of FY27, compared to ₹914.11 crore in the same period a year earlier.

A bank reduces its provision on bad loans based on its expectations of the upcoming non-performing asset conditions; a reduction in provisions indicates the lender estimates fewer bad loans in the upcoming period.

A loan gets classified as an NPA after 90 days of non-payment of the principal amount or interest.
