Biocon Q1 results: Biopharmaceutical company Biocon reported its earnings for the April-June quarter of the 2026-27 financial year (Q1 FY27) on Wednesday, August 5.
The company recorded a 349.4% year-on-year (YoY) growth in its consolidated net profit to ₹141.1 crore during the quarter under review, compared with ₹31.4 crore in the first quarter of the 2025-26 fiscal year (Q1 FY26).
Its revenue from operations jumped 10% YoY to ₹4,336 crore in the June quarter of FY27, as against ₹3,941.9 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding fiscal year, according to a regulatory filing.
The top-line growth was driven by strong growth in the Biopharma business, which saw its revenue surging 17% YoY. It was supported by momentum from recent biosimilar and generic product launches across key markets.
Under the biopharma business, the biosimilars segment revenue advanced 16% YoY to ₹2,855 crore during the quarter. Furthermore, the generics segment recorded a 21% YoY growth to ₹760 crore.
However, its services revenue dropped by 16% YoY to ₹736 crore in Q1 FY27, due to the continued impact of challenges the company faced last year.
The biopharma business contributed 83% to Biocon’s revenue, while services made up 17% of its total revenue during the quarter.
At an operational level, its EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation), also known as operating profit, stood at ₹902 crore in the quarter ended June 30, 2026, reflecting a 7% YoY increase from ₹846 crore in the year-ago period. Its EBITDA margin remained stable YoY at 21%.
The growth in its EBITDA was supported by improved profitability in the Biopharma business, which helped offset continued challenges in the services business.
Commenting on the development, Shreehas Tambe, CEO & Managing Director, Biocon Limited, said: “Biocon delivered a resilient performance in Q1FY27, reporting consolidated revenue from operations growth of 10% year-on-year to ₹4,336 crore and EBITDA of ₹902 crore. This reflects the strength of our diversified portfolio and disciplined commercial execution.”
Tambe added that in FY27, Bicon successfully launched Bosaya and Aukelso (biosimilar Denosumab), Yesafili (biosimilar Aflibercept), and generic Liraglutide, further strengthening its presence in the US market.
“We also secured regulatory approval from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for our new drug product fill-finish plant for insulins in Malaysia, unlocking additional manufacturing capacity. Our focus on balance sheet optimization reduced interest costs by 23% year-on-year. We expect growth momentum to accelerate through the year, driving a stronger second-half performance,” Tambe stated.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Executive Chairperson, Biocon Ltd said that Biocon entered FY27 with a clear focus on translating its strategic investments into sustainable growth and long-term value creation.
“A favourable policy environment for biosimilars together with our expanded manufacturing capabilities in the U.S. reinforce our confidence in the long-term opportunities across North America, our biggest market. We also remain confident that the investments in new capabilities at our research services business will support its next phase of growth,” Shaw said.
Shares of Biocon closed 0.76% higher at ₹425.20 per unit on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on August 5. However, the Q1 results were declared after the markets closed.
