Airtel Xtelify Launches Cloud, AI Software Suite

On Monday, August 4, 2025, Xtelify, the digital arm of Bharti Airtel, announced the launch of 'Airtel Cloud' along with a new suite of AI-powered software solutions designed for telecom enterprises.

This "built-in-India" telco-grade cloud platform will deliver Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and advanced connectivity, ensuring secure migration, seamless scalability, reduced costs, and freedom from vendor lock-in, the company said in a statement.

"Tailored to handle 140 crore transactions per minute for Airtel's own use in India, this sovereign cloud platform is now being extended to meet the ever-evolving needs of businesses in India.

Bharti Airtel and Tata Group call off DTH merger talks

In May 2025, Bharti Airtel and Tata Group terminated discussions for a merger of their direct-to-home (DTH) business, according to a Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) filing.

"This is in reference to our intimation dated February 26, 2025, wherein the company informed that it is in bilateral discussions with TATA Group to explore a potential combination of TATA Group's Direct To Home ('DTH') business housed under Tata Play Limited with Bharti Telemedia Limited, a subsidiary of the company," it said.

"In this regard, we wish to inform you that after not being able to find a satisfactory resolution, the parties have mutually decided to terminate the discussions," Airtel added.

On February 26, Sunil Mittal-led telecom services provider Bharti Airtel had said it was in talks with Tata Group for a merger of its loss-making direct-to-home (DTH) business.

Airtel was holding discussions with the salt-to-software conglomerate for a merger of Bharti Telemedia, which offers cable and satellite television services, with Tata Play, the regulatory filing earlier this year said.

Bharti Airtel Transfers Stake in Airtel Payments Bank to Airtel Ltd

In May 2025, Bharti Airtel said it transferred its entire 69.94% stake in Airtel Payments Bank to wholly owned subsidiary Airtel Limited.

"The shareholding of 69.94 per cent, held by Bharti Airtel Limited in Airtel Payments Bank Limited, is being transferred to the company's wholly owned subsidiary (i.e., Airtel Limited), post receiving requisite regulatory and corporate approvals. The above is an internal reorganisation of shareholding in the bank and has no impact on the ownership of the bank," Bharti Airtel said in the filing.

According to the filing, the requisite regulatory and corporate approvals with regard to the transaction have been received by the company.

Airtel Payments had a turnover of ₹1,835.8 crore in 2023-24.

Airtel Fights Spam: International Call & SMS Alerts, 10 Languages

In April 2025, Bharti Airtel announced two new features in its ongoing offensive against spam, as it expanded detection coverage to international calls and SMSes and introduced spam alert display in ten Indian languages.

Airtel said it expects to nullify the growing and alarming trend of spam calls originating from and being funnelled through international networks into India by fraudsters amid a 12 per cent rise in such attempts in the last six months.

"Following the launch of its AI-powered spam detection tool that flagged over 27.5 billion calls as spam to its customers, Airtel today announced the introduction of two significant enhancements aimed at staying ahead of spammers," the company said in a release.

Bharti Airtel Q4 FY25 Results

Bharti Airtel posted about a five-fold jump in consolidated net profit to ₹11,022 crore in the March 2025 quarter, mainly due to the tariff hike impact and one-time gain on tax benefits.

Bharti Airtel had posted a net profit (attributable to owners of the parent company) of ₹2,071.6 crore a year ago.

During the reported quarter, Bharti Airtel received favourable orders in certain tax-related matters, which helped it with a one-time tax benefit of around ₹5,913 crore.

The company's revenue from operations grew 27% to ₹47,876.2 crore during the quarter under review from ₹37,599.1 crore in the March 2024 quarter, it said in a regulatory filing.

Bharti Airtel India's standalone revenue in the March quarter grew 15% year-on-year to ₹36,735 crore against ₹31,851.5 crore.

The growth for the company came as it benefited from the tariff hike, which was announced in July last year.

"India revenues for the fourth quarter of the financial year 2025, at ₹36,735 crore, increased by 28.8% YoY.
