Gold prices edged lower on Tuesday, March 4, in line with weak global trends and poor offtake by retailers. The precious metal traded below $2,900 an ounce in early Asian session after more than 1% rise in the previous session on Monday. Trade uncertainties and geopolitical worries had supported the metal to rebound from three-week lows touched last week.

The US is expected to impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada and an additional 10% on China from Tuesday. However, US President Donald Trump will take a final call on the matter later in the day. Investors preferred to sit on the fence ahead of the US trade policy decision.

In major Indian cities, 24K gold slipped by ₹10 to ₹86,210 per 10 grams and 22K gold to ₹79,540 per 10 grams. Gold prices remained unchanged on Monday amid mixed cues. In early Asian trade on Tuesday, spot gold dropped by 0.18% to $2,888 an ounce.
