Gold prices surged to a fresh lifetime high in major cities in India on Wednesday, March 19, ahead of the US Fed policy. The precious metal hit an all-time high of $3,038 an ounce on Tuesday in global markets driven by trade policy uncertainties.
Investors are expecting two rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve this year even as the central bank is expected to hold rates in the policy to be announced later in the day. Investors will focus on the commentary by the US Fed chairman amid tariff war concerns.
The 24K gold rose by ₹10 to hit an all-time high of ₹90,010 per 10 grams and the 22K gold to ₹82,510 per 10 grams in major Indian cities. Gold prices had jumped up to ₹440 per 10 grams to hit a record ₹90,000 per 10 grams mark for the first time on Tuesday. In early Asian trade on Wednesday, Spot Gold slipped by 0.05% to $3,032 an ounce.
In Delhi markets, 24K gold traded at ₹90,150 per 10 grams and 22K gold at ₹82,650 per 10 grams, up by ₹10 over the last close.

Silver prices rose by ₹100 to hit a high of ₹1,04,100 per kg in major cities on Wednesday following overnight gains in the global markets. A revival in industrial demand also backed the white metal. The metal had jumped ₹1,100 to hit a record of ₹1,04,000 on Tuesday. Spot silver traded flat at $34.04 an ounce in early Asian trade on Wednesday.

Gold prices rebounded on Tuesday to trade at all-time highs on expectations of a dovish US Fed policy. Uncertainty over the US trade policy ahead of the April 2 deadline also helped the metal to rebound and scale new highs.
Silver prices have scaled new highs on a revival in industrial demand and a weak US dollar this week.
