Gold prices surged to a fresh lifetime high in major cities in India on Wednesday, March 19, ahead of the US Fed policy. The precious metal hit an all-time high of $3,038 an ounce on Tuesday in global markets driven by trade policy uncertainties.

Investors are expecting two rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve this year even as the central bank is expected to hold rates in the policy to be announced later in the day. Investors will focus on the commentary by the US Fed chairman amid tariff war concerns.

The 24K gold rose by ₹10 to hit an all-time high of ₹90,010 per 10 grams and the 22K gold to ₹82,510 per 10 grams in major Indian cities. Gold prices had jumped up to ₹440 per 10 grams to hit a record ₹90,000 per 10 grams mark for the first time on Tuesday. In early Asian trade on Wednesday, Spot Gold slipped by 0.05% to $3,032 an ounce.

Comparison of Gold and Silver Prices This Week

Gold prices rebounded on Tuesday to trade at all-time highs on expectations of a dovish US Fed policy. Uncertainty over the US trade policy ahead of the April 2 deadline also helped the metal to rebound and scale new highs.

Silver prices have scaled new highs on a revival in industrial demand and a weak US dollar this week.
