Gold prices advanced in major Indian cities in early trade on Tuesday, February 18, following the ease in the US dollar in overnight trade and US trade policy uncertainty.
The 24K gold advanced ₹10 to ₹86,630 per 10 grams in Mumbai and other cities as the US dollar index traded at 106.6 levels against leading currencies. Uncertainty around the US trade policy may have led to higher demand for the safe haven asset like gold. Investors are also awaiting release of the US FOMC meeting minutes due on Wednesday. In early Asian trade on Tuesday, spot gold was trading around $2,915 an ounce.
In Delhi markets, 24K gold traded at ₹86,780 per 10 grams and 22K gold at ₹79,560 per 10 grams, up by ₹10 per 10 grams. The 24K gold in Mumbai traded at ₹86,630 per 10 grams and 22K gold at ₹79,410.

In a range-bound trade, silver prices fell by ₹100 to ₹100,400 per kg. The white metal has moved in a tight range due to weak global trends and some demand from industrial users. Spot silver declined by 0.70% to $32.14 an ounce in early Asian trade on Tuesday.

Gold prices gained for the second day this week due to a weak US dollar and expectations of a rate cut by the US Fed. Gold prices have been rising for the past eight weeks as trade war fears and geopolitical worries fuel the safe-haven demand.
Silver prices, on the other hand, have remained almost flat.
