Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday. The Prime Minister tendered his resignation along with the Union Council of Ministers.

"The President accepted the resignation and requested the Prime Minister and the Union Council of Ministers to continue in office till the new Government is formed," Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a tweet.

In the 2024 General Elections, the NDA won 292 seats, while the INDIA alliances got 234 seats. Party-wise, the BJP fell short of the 272-majority mark by securing 240 seats and had to rely on alliance partners to form a government.

The NDA includes the BJP, TDP, JDU, Janata Dal (Secular), Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party, National People's Party, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Apna Dal (Soneylal), and others.

The INDIA bloc includes the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), Shiv Sena (UBT), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Rashtriya Janata Dal, and Communist Party of India (Marxist), among others.
