The INDIA bloc, comprising the Indian National Congress, Samajwadi Party and others, also posed a tough challenge to the BJP-led coalition by winning 234 seats.   • In NDA, BJP won 240 seats, TDP 16 seats, JD(U) 12 seats, and Shiv Sena seven seats.

  • In the India bloc, Congress won 99 seats, Samajwadi Party (SP) 37 seats, Trinamool Congress 29 seats and Shiv Sena (UBT) nine seats.

  • BJP's vote share decreased to 36.56% from 37.7% in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, while Congress' increased to 21.19% from 19.49%.

  • BJP won all Lok Sabha seats in Delhi.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi defeated his nearest rival, Congress' Ajay Rai, by 1.5 lakh votes in Varanasi.

  • Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah retained the Gandhinagar seat by a margin of 7.44 lakh votes.

  • Congress leader Rahul Gandhi retained the Wayanad seat by 3.64 lakh votes and won the Rae Bareli seat by 3.90 lakh votes.

  • For the first time, the BJP won a seat in Kerala. Saffron Party's Suresh Gopi defeated the nearest rival, VS Sunilkumar of the Communist Party of India (CPI), by more than 74,000 votes.

Union ministers who lost Lok Sabha polls

Many union ministers were unseated in the 2024 General Elections. Due to BJP's tepid performance, it has to rely on NDA partners to form a government.

  • Congress' Kishori Lal Sharma defeated Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani by 1.67 lakh votes in Amethi.

  • Union Minister of State (MoS) for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar was defeated by Congress' Shashi Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram.

  • Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda lost by 1.49 lakh in Khunti constituency.

  • Ajay Mishra Teni was defeated by the SP's Utkarsh Verma by more than 34,329 votes.

Other ministers, such as V Muraleedharan, Kaushal Kishore, Mahendra Nath Pandey, Sanjeev Balyan, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, RK Singh, L Murugan, Nishith Pramanik, Rao Saheb Danve, and Subhas Sarkar, also lost in the elections.
