GSTN seeks deadline extension for December GSTR-1 filing amid portal glitch

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) on Friday sought an extension of the deadline for filing GSTR-1 returns for December 2024, as taxpayers faced difficulties due to a technical glitch in the GST portal.

GST Network said it has sent an incident report to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on the technical glitches in the system.

GST Tech, the official communication handle of GSTN, posted on X: “GST portal is currently experiencing technical issues and is under maintenance. We expect the portal to be operational by 12:00 noon. CBIC is being sent an incident report to consider extension in filing date. Thank you for your understanding and patience!”

The portal has been experiencing technical difficulties since Thursday, causing disruptions for taxpayers trying to generate summaries and file GSTR-1 returns.

Earlier in the day, GST Tech acknowledged the issue and said, "It is to inform that our team is working on it and same will be fixed shortly. Thanks for your patience," it added.

The deadline for filing GSTR-1 for the month of December 2024 is January 11, 2025.

GSTR-1 is a monthly or quarterly return detailing all outward supplies of goods and services, which is crucial for businesses to claim input tax credit and reconcile their tax liabilities.
