Zepto expands operations in Tamil Nadu with over 20 dark stores, Zepto Cafe crosses 1 lakh orders per day

Zepto now has more than 20 dark stores operational in Tamil Nadu. The company has strengthened its position in the state, expanding its operations beyond Chennai. Additionally, its rapid food delivery arm Zepto Cafe recently crossed the milestone of 1 lakh orders daily, just weeks after surpassing 75,000 orders per day.

Zepto, a Bengaluru-based quick commerce company, has expanded its presence in Tamil Nadu, going beyond Chennai. The company has now begun operations in many districts in the state including Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Vellore and Salem.

With over 20 dark stores operational in Tamil Nadu and each store strategically positioned to optimise delivery within a 2-3 km radius, allowing partners to deliver orders in 10 minutes while maintaining their safety, Zepto is set to strengthen its position in the state.

More than 100 farmers in Tamil Nadu offer tender coconuts and green vegetables from Palacode and Pollachi to Zepto users along with various other customers.

"Tamil Nadu is a key market for Zepto, with its dynamic urban centers and strong demand for convenience. Expanding our services not only allows the sellers to serve users faster but also creates new opportunities for local businesses. " Zepto Chief Growth Officer Divesh Sawhney said.

"We are committed to bringing speed, quality and affordability to every doorstep while deepening our connection with the community," he said.

The rise of Zepto Cafe

The rapid food delivery segment of the company, Zepto Cafe, recently surpassed 1 lakh orders per day. Zepto’s co-founder and CEO Aadit Palicha announced the achievement through a social media post, highlighting the Zepto Cafe’s growth in the quick-service food (QSR) industry.

"Zepto Cafe has now hit 100,000 orders per day. Zepto Cafe has hit 100,000 orders per day. That's closing in on a $100M Annualized GMV run rate with a 50% steady-state gross margin. Miles to go before we sleep, but I believe this is the beginning of a revolution in India's QSR industry," Palicha said in a post on X.

Zepto Cafe has been expanding at a quick pace, opening 100 new outlets every month, as per an Economic Times report.

In the fiscal year 2024 (FY24), Zepto reported revenue from operations of ₹4,454 crore, a 120% increase as compared to FY23.
