Users flagged problems on outage-tracking website Downdetector, with the first incident reports appearing around 6:16 am IST.

More than 19,000 users had reported issues by 7:16 am, according to the website.

While incident reports later declined, users continued to flag problems with the video streaming service.

A majority of complaints were linked to the YouTube app, while about 16% of users reported streaming-related issues.

“We’re aware some of you are having issues accessing YouTube right now. Our teams are aware, and we’ll provide updates as soon as we have them,” TeamYouTube said in a post.

The company later said the outage was caused by a malfunction in its recommendations system, which prevented videos from appearing across multiple surfaces, including the homepage, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids.

“The homepage is back, but we're still working on a full fix – more coming soon,” the company added.

In its latest update, YouTube said the issue with the recommendations system has been resolved and all of our platforms (YouTube.com, the YouTube app, YouTube Music, Kids, and TV) are back to normal.

"We really appreciate you bearing with us while we sorted this out," it added.
