"I am planning to make a law that horns of all vehicles should be in Indian musical instruments so that it is pleasant to hear. Flute, tabla, violin, harmonium,” said Gadkari, speaking at the 78th Foundation Year Celebration of Navbharat Times.

He added that the transport sector in India contributes to 40% of the air pollution in the country and that the Modi government is promoting vehicles that run on green and bio-fuel including methanol and ethanol. India gets maximum revenue from exports of two-wheelers and cars, Gadkari stated.

In 2014, the automotive industry in India was valued at ₹14 crore, which is now at ₹22 crore, according to the minister. Furthermore, he said that India has surpassed Japan to become the third-largest automobile market in the world after the US and China.

Previously in October 2021, Gadkari suggested the same thing while speaking at the highway inauguration ceremony ceremony in Nashik, Maharashtra. Expressing his concerns over the noise pollution caused by vehicle horns, he said that in the future, all vehicle horns will have the sound of Indian musical instruments.

Additionally, during the inauguration ceremony of Pune's Chandni Chowk flyover in 2023, Gadkari said that he plans to stop the sirens on VIP vehicles by replacing horns and sirens with sounds of Indian musical instruments.

"Controlling sound pollution is very important. I am lucky that I got an opportunity to end the red light (beacon) on a VIP's vehicle. Now, I am planning to put an end to sirens on VIP vehicles," he had noted, adding, "I am making a policy in which the siren sound would be replaced by the sound of Basuri (flute), tabla, and 'shankh'. I want people to be relieved from noise pollution.”
