Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday, February 1, presented the Union Budget 2025 in the Parliament, announcing many key reforms to rejuvenate the Indian economy.

Key budget announcements

Some of the major announcements made in the Union Budget 2025 are:

  • There will be no tax payable for taxpayers earning up to ₹12 lakh per annum (other than special rate income like capital gains) under the new tax regime.

  • The budget aims to put forward 'transformative' reforms in 6 areas including taxation, financial sector, power sector, urban development, mining and regulatory framework, FM announced on Saturday.

  • The government introduced the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana in partnership with states to cover 100 districts with low productivity, moderate crop intensity and below-average credit parameters. The scheme is expected to help 1.7 crore farmers.

  • Street vendors will get UPI-linked cards with a limit of ₹20,000, the FM said in her Union Budget speech.

  • The government will develop the top 50 tourist sites across the country in partnership with states, announced FM Sitharaman.

  • The government will introduce the Jan Vishwas Bill 2.0 to decriminalise over 100 provisions. Additionally, an investment-friendly index of states will be launched in 2025.

  • The FM announced that 50,000 Atal Tinkering Labs will be established in government schools in the next five years.

  • A new income tax bill will be introduced next week.

  • The KYC process will be simplified by the introduction of a revised central KYC registry.
