The pre-budget consultations for the Union Budget 2024-25, which began on June 19, were concluded on July 5. The consultations were chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
In the course of in-person consultations, over 120 invitees across ten stakeholder groups, including representatives and experts from farmer associations and agriculture, education and health, trade unions, employment and skilling, financial section and capital markets, among other sectors, participated in the meeting.
Apart from Sitharaman, Union Ministers of State (MoS) for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, Finance Secretary Dr TV Somanathan, Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth, DIPAM Secretary Tuhin K Pandey, Chief Economic Adviser Dr V Anantha Nageswaran, and senior officers from the Finance Ministry were present during relevant meetings.

Last month, President Droupadi Murmu, in her address to the joint sitting of Parliament, said that several historic steps and major economic decisions will be taken in the upcoming budget session.
The President said, "This budget will be an effective document of the government's far-reaching policies and futuristic vision."
"Along with major economic and social decisions, many historic steps will also be seen in this budget," she added.
