NSE and BSE will be open on January 14 for Makar Sakranti, while the banks will be closed
We are just two weeks into 2025, but the markets have already witnessed a lot of action. The month of January is filled with festivals including Makar Sankranti, Pongal and Lohri, giving people many reasons to celebrate and invest as well.
Stock markets are open on January 14, 2025 for Makar Sankranti, making it a regular trading day. However, banks will remain closed as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has declared it as a bank holiday.
Moreover, NSE and BSE will also remain open on February 1, even though it is a Saturday, as the Union Budget for FY 2025-26 will be presented on this day. The budget announcements are expected to have major sector-wide implications, and the special trading session on this day will allow investors to trade on this action-packed day.
While January gives a festive vibe as it's just after Christmas and the new year, there aren’t many holidays for traders. There is only one share market holiday in January, and that is also falling on a Sunday when markets are already closed. January 26, or the Republic Day, falls on a Sunday this time. This means that markets will be fully functional in the coming month.
