The Rajmargyatra app already gives comprehensive information about highways and helps travellers report issues. It also provides the option to buy or recharge FASTags. Now, it will also tell users which route has the lowest toll cost.

Citing an example, Amrit Singha, Chief Product Officer, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) of Indian Highways Management Company Ltd (IHMCL), said there are three routes to travel to Lucknow from Delhi, and the app will help commuters choose the best one.

“You can travel to Lucknow from Delhi via Yamuna Expressway, or by crossing Ghaziabad-Aligarh-Kanpur-Lucknow or Moradabad-Bareilly-Sitapur-Lucknow... The app will inform motorists about the route which will attract the least amount of toll between Delhi and Lucknow,” Singha said.

Singha also raised concern that many two-wheelers and three-wheelers are entering expressways where they are banned.

According to NHAI’s Advanced Traffic Management System, between June 21 and June 23, there were 1.73 lakh violations recorded, and more than one lakh were by banned vehicles.

Singha said the National Highways Authority of India is also likely to open a 67-km-long stretch connecting Bandikui to Jaipur via the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, which will reduce travel time.

Pradeep Atri, NHAI’s Rajasthan regional officer, said the new four-lane road has been built at a cost of ₹1,368 crore and is ready for traffic trials.

According to Pushpendra Singh, NHAI Manager, the road was constructed in about 2.5 years and is expected to shift a major chunk of traffic from the old Delhi-Jaipur highway.

Currently, it takes around four hours to drive from Delhi to Jaipur – 2.5 hours to reach Bandikui via the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and another 1.5 hours to cover the last 67 km. With the new stretch, this journey could be completed in about three hours.
