Nearly 2.71 crore traditional artisans across the country have applied under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme so far, with the government achieving 99.8% of its registration target, the Parliament was informed on Thursday.
Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Jitan Ram Manjhi said that against the target of 30 lakh registrations, 29.94 lakh artisans have been successfully registered as PM Vishwakarma beneficiaries till June-end this year.
State-wise data showed Karnataka had the highest number of successful registrations at over 5.7 lakh, followed by Maharashtra (2.82 lakh), Madhya Pradesh (2.77 lakh) and Rajasthan (2.5 lakh).
The minister added that the government has undertaken a series of initiatives to spread awareness about the scheme, especially among SC and ST beneficiaries. It included over 760 awareness programmes, 50 workshops, 50 trade fairs, 34 state-level exhibitions, and more than 50 flash mobs organised till June this year.
The guidelines for the scheme have been translated into 12 regional languages and extensive publicity has been carried out through social media campaigns, radio jingles, newspaper advertisements, hoardings and local audio announcements, he said.
The PM Vishwakarma scheme aims to provide skill training, toolkits, and credit support to traditional artisans across 18 trades to strengthen livelihoods and promote indigenous crafts and services.
