Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Maharashtra on October 8–9 to inaugurate key infrastructure projects, including the Navi Mumbai International Airport and the final phase of the Mumbai Metro Line-3.
PM Modi will also host UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Mumbai, the Prime Minister’s Office said on Tuesday.
The prime minister will reach Navi Mumbai on October 8 and undertake a walkthrough of the newly built international airport around 3 pm, following which he will inaugurate Phase 1 of the project built at a cost of about ₹19,650 crore.
He will also dedicate several urban connectivity initiatives in Mumbai and address a public gathering.
On October 9, Modi will host his British counterpart in Mumbai as part of efforts to strengthen the India–UK strategic partnership.
The two leaders will review the Vision 2035 roadmap and address the CEO Forum at the Jio World Centre before jointly delivering keynote speeches at the Global Fintech Fest 2025.
Developed under a public–private partnership between Adani Group and the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) of Maharashtra, the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is India’s largest greenfield airport project.
The airport, being built in five phases, will operate in tandem with the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to reduce congestion.
Spread over 1,160 hectares, NMIA is designed to eventually handle 90 million passengers and 3.25 million metric tonnes of cargo annually.
In the first phase, the airport will be capable of handling 20 million passengers annually and 0.5 million metric tonnes of cargo.
The airport will feature dedicated storage for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), solar power generation of approximately 47 MW, and EV bus services for public connectivity across the city. The Navi Mumbai International Airport will also be the first airport in the country to be connected by Water Taxi.
Air India Express will start with 20 daily flights to 15 Indian cities, scaling up to 55 daily departures, including international routes by mid-2026.
IndiGo has announced 18 daily flights initially, with plans to expand to 140 in the next 18 months, while Akasa Air will begin with 15 daily domestic services before ramping up to more than 300 domestic and 50 international flights weekly.
The prime minister will also inaugurate Phase 2B of the 33.5-km Mumbai Metro Line-3, connecting Acharya Atre Chowk and Cuffe Parade. The inauguration will mark the completion of the entire line built at a total cost of over ₹37,270 crore.
Mumbai’s first fully underground metro corridor will cater to 13 lakh passengers daily, linking the city’s business and cultural hubs such as Fort, Marine Drive, the Bombay High Court, Mantralaya, RBI, and the BSE. The line will also integrate with suburban railways, airports, and other metro lines to improve last-mile connectivity.
Modi will also launch “Mumbai One”, India’s first integrated common mobility app covering 11 public transport operators, including metro, monorail, suburban railways, and municipal transport services. The app will offer features like unified digital ticketing, real-time travel updates, multimodal journey planning, and an SOS function for commuter safety.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will undertake a two-day visit to India next week in his first trip to the country since assuming charge of the top office in July last year.
He will hold wide-ranging talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mumbai on October 9.
His visit to India comes two-and-a-half months after the two countries inked a landmark free trade pact that will increase market access, cut tariffs and double bilateral trade by 2030.
The landmark trade deal was firmed up during Modi's visit to London in July.
The two leaders will review progress on trade, investment, defence, climate, and technology cooperation under the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and discuss prospects under the proposed Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
In Mumbai, Modi and Starmer will also attend the sixth edition of the Global Fintech Fest and deliver keynote addresses.
The two leaders will also engage with industry experts, policymakers and innovators.
