NTPC Green Energy gets approval to start operation at last phase of Bhainsara Solar PV Project

NTPC Green Energy on Tuesday, March 25, said that it has received approval to start operations at the third and last part of the 320 MW Bhainsara Solar PV Project.

The renewable energy firm’s last part of the plant is of 100 MW capacity and is situated in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.  

“…we wish to inform you that based on a certificate received on 25th March 2025 from Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited, the third & last part capacity of 100 MW out of 320 MW Bhainsara Solar PV Project of NTPC Renewable Energy Limited in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, awarded under SECI Raj-Tranche-III tender, is declared in Commercial Operation w.e.f. 20.03.2025,” the company said in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges.

The first part's capacity of 160 MW and the second part's capacity of 60 MW had already been declared in commercial operation on August 28, 2024, and January 7, 2025, respectively.

The development came after market hours. Shares of NTPC Green Energy (NGEL) closed at ₹100.15 apiece on Tuesday, tumbling 3.57% on the National Stock Exchange.

Its market capitalisation stood at ₹84,389.69 crore.

The newly listed company had reported an 18% rise in consolidated net profit at ₹65.61 crore for the December quarter FY25, on account of higher income. It had logged a net profit of ₹55.61 crore in the year-ago quarter, the company said in an exchange filing.

Total income rose to ₹581.46 crore from ₹463.46 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

Expenses were at ₹482.22 crore as against ₹383.28 crore.

NGEL is an umbrella company for the green business initiatives of NTPC and undertakes projects through organic and inorganic routes.

Shares of NTPC Green Energy were listed on November 27, 2024, on the stock exchanges. The initial public offering (IPO) of NTPC Green Energy Ltd was subscribed to 2.40 times on the closing day of the share sale. The ₹10,000 crore share sale had a price band of ₹102-₹108 per share.

NTPC Green Energy is a 'Maharatna' central public sector enterprise with a renewable energy portfolio, including solar and wind power assets.
