Singh said the government has no policy to abolish vacancy created by retirement of employees.

The Centre on Wednesday ruled out any proposal to alter the retirement age of government employees.

In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh informed the Lok Sabha that no such plan is under consideration.

Singh also clarified that the government has no policy to abolish vacancies arising due to the retirement of employees.

Lok Sabha members Saugata Roy and Ganapathy Rajkumar P had sought details on whether the government intended to revise the retirement age, abolish posts vacated by retirees, and the reason behind disparities in retirement age policies between the Central and state governments.

“No proposal to change the retirement age of government employees is under consideration of the government. The government has no policy to abolish the vacancy created from retirement of employees,” Singh said.

The minister stated that no centralised data on the retirement age of Central and state government employees is maintained by the Centre, as the subject falls under the State List of the Constitution.

On the question of demands from government employees’ unions regarding changes to the retirement age, Singh informed that no formal proposal for changing the retirement age has been received from the staff side of the National Council (Joint Consultative Machinery), the body representing government employees.

“No formal proposal has been received from staff side of National Council (Joint Consultative machinery),” he said.

The minister’s response puts to rest speculation about potential changes to the retirement framework for government employees.
