Civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared a holiday for the first session of all BMC, government and private schools and colleges in Mumbai due to downpour.
Many BEST buses were also diverted from their regular route due to inclement weather in Mumbai.
The heavy overnight rainfall in Mumbai and its suburbs on Monday led to waterlogging in several places, flight delays, and train cancellations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to very heavy rainfall in the financial capital on July 8.
Civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also declared a holiday for the first session of all BMC, government and private schools and colleges in Mumbai.
"Heavy rain is also expected today. To avoid inconvenience to students, a holiday for the first session is declared for all BMC, Government and Private schools and colleges in Mumbai (BMC area). The decision for the next session will be announced after reviewing the situation," the BMC said in a communique.
"In the wake of continuous rains, the entire machinery of the BMC is working on the field. Mumbaikar are requested not to believe in any rumours. Also to step out of the house only if it is necessary. In case of an emergency, call 1916 for immediate assistance," the civic body stated.
Due to the downpour, the Central Railway (CR) has cancelled many trains, including Pune-CSMT (11010), MMR-CSMT (12110), Pune-CSMT Deccan (11007), Pune-CSMT Deccan (12124), and CSMT-Pune Intercity Express (12127).
In an advisory, low-cost carrier IndiGo said that flights to and from Mumbai are impacted by heavy showers. It advised people to opt for an alternate flight or claim a full refund.
