The app, currently live on iOS, also introduces toll cost-saving insights under the NHAI Annual Toll Pass.

Homegrown navigation platform Mappls, the flagship app of MapmyIndia, on Thursday announced the launch of a suite of India-first features, including AI-powered live traffic signal timers.

The Mappls app has become the first in the country to display real-time traffic signal countdowns during navigation, in partnership with the Bengaluru Traffic Police and global design firm Arcadis.

More than 125 smart traffic signals across Bengaluru have been integrated to show live red, amber and green timers up to 500 metres in advance, helping drivers better anticipate stops, reduce stress in heavy traffic and improve the accuracy of their estimated time of arrival (ETA).

“This is the first time in India that live signal timers are being shown to the public within a navigation app — a milestone in traffic management and smart mobility,” the company said, adding that the feature will soon be rolled out to other cities.

The app also now provides information on potential toll cost savings available under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Annual Toll Pass. Users will be able to track the exact distance travelled on toll roads for better budgeting and transparency.

“At MapmyIndia Mappls, our mission is to make navigation safer, smarter and more efficient for every Indian,” said Rakesh Verma, Co-Founder, Managing Director and Group Chairman of MapmyIndia. “These innovations will help commuters save time, money and stress but also lay the foundation for a smarter mobility ecosystem in India.”

Bengaluru’s Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy hailed the integration as a major step forward in traffic management.

“Commuters can now view real-time signal countdowns directly on the Mappls app, which will help them plan better, reduce uncertainty and improve road discipline,” he said.

A.R. Chitranshi, Chief Operating Officer of IHMCL, the technological arm of NHAI, said the collaboration supports the authority’s efforts to make highway travel more efficient and cost-effective.

Users interested in purchasing the NHAI Annual Toll Pass can do so via the RajmargYatra mobile app, he added.

The new features are currently live on the iOS version of the Mappls app and will be available for Android users soon, the company said.
