Eyewear retailer Lenskart said on Thursday it will open its upcoming AI-enabled smartglasses, B by Lenskart, to India’s developer community.

The company said the smartglasses will launch by the end of December 2025, marking its entry into the consumer technology segment.

It is inviting app makers and independent developers to build on its platform across sectors like food delivery, entertainment and fitness.

“This pioneering move positions Lenskart as a frontrunner in building India’s first full-stack wearables ecosystem, combining hardware excellence, AI innovation and software design under one roof,” the company said in a statement.

Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipset and integrated with the Gemini 2.5 Live AI assistant, the device supports natural language interactions, hands-free UPI payments, live translation and personalised well-being insights, among other features.

The initiative follows Lenskart’s partnership with Qualcomm, announced in July 2025 at the Snapdragon for India XR Day, to co-develop AI and AR solutions for Indian consumers.

“The smartglass aims to bring AI and commerce into the eyewear experience, where your glasses are not just for vision but also interaction and convenience,” said a person familiar with the development.

The announcement comes days after Lenskart’s ₹7,278 crore initial public offering, which was subscribed over 28 times before closing on November 4. The IPO included a fresh issue of ₹2,150 crore and an offer for sale worth ₹5,128 crore by founders and investors such as Kedaara Capital, Schroders Capital, SVF II Lightbulb (Cayman) and Alpha Wave Ventures.

Proceeds from the fresh issue will be used to expand company-owned retail stores and for lease payments, according to its prospectus.

Over the past year, Lenskart has invested in startups in AI, XR and computer vision, part of its effort to evolve from a direct-to-consumer eyewear company into a “vision-tech ecosystem brand.”

The upcoming launch would make Lenskart one of the first Indian consumer tech firms to commercialise AI-powered eyewear, competing with Meta-Ray-Ban Smart Glasses and Amazon Echo Frames, but with pricing and design tailored to Indian users.
