Stock market, bank holiday on May 1: Are NSE, BSE, public, private lenders closed on Labour Day?

Banks will remain closed on May 1 in states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. Kerala, Manipur, Goa, West Bengal and Bihar.

Labour Day 2024 and Maharashtra Day will be observed on Wednesday, May 1. The two main Mumbai-based stock exchanges, the BSE and the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), will remain closed, as per the holiday circular issued earlier by them.

Banks, including public and private, will also remain shut in several states where a public holiday has been notified.

Stock market holiday on Maharashtra Day 2024

The BSE and the National Stock Exchange will remain shut for trading on Wednesday. The equity, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), equity derivative, currency derivatives, and interest rate derivatives segments will be closed for trading.

May 1 bank holiday

Banks will remain closed on May 1 in states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. Kerala, Manipur, Goa, West Bengal and Bihar.

MCX and NCDEX on Labour Day

On Wednesday, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will be closed for morning trading. However, it will be open for trading in the evening session from 5 pm to 9 pm. There will be no trading in National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) on the account of Maharashtra Day.

According to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI's) holiday calendar, banks will remain closed for 14 days in May 2024, including public and regional holidays, second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays.

  • May 8: Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti

  • May 16: Sikkim Day
  • May 19: Sunday
  • May 20: Fifth phase of Lok Sabha General elections 2024
  • May 23: Buddha Pournima
  • May 25: Nazrul Jayanti/Fourth Saturday
  • May 26: Sunday

While the bank branches will be closed, online facilities like net banking, mobile banking and UPI will not be affected during these holidays.
