June Auto Sales: M&M logs 11% jump, Toyota sees record high rise, MG Motor reports 9% dip

Automobile majors on Monday, July 1, released their sales numbers for June 2024. Two major carmakers, Mahindra & Mahindra and Toyota Kirloskar, recorded a sharp spike in terms of units sold.

However, MG Motor India, which recently completed its merger with JSW, reported a significant decline.

Here's a look at the company-wise sales numbers:

  • Mahindra & Mahindra

M&M said its wholesales increased 11% year-on-year to 69,397 units in June.

The company's total dispatches to its dealers stood at 62,429 units in June 2023.

The Mumbai-based auto major's passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market rose 23 per cent to 40,022 units last month against 32,588 units in June last year, the auto major said in a statement.

Total exports stood at 2,597 units last month, an increase of 4 per cent over 2,505 units in June 2023.

Mahindra & Mahindra shares were trading 0.2 per cent up at Rs 2,873.85 apiece on the BSE.

  • Toyota

Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported its best-ever monthly sales at 27,474 units in June.

The company's total dispatches to dealers increased by 40 per cent last month to 27,474 units, as compared to 19,608 units in June 2023.

Last month, the company's domestic wholesales stood at 25,752 units, while exports accounted for 1,722 units.

"Our SUV and MPV segments continue to lead our impressive sales surge thus reflecting a strong consumer preference for these versatile and reliable vehicles," Toyota Kirloskar Motor Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, Sabari Manohar said in a statement.

Beyond strong presence in major cities, the automaker has strategically increased its focus on rural areas, broadening customer base and driving significant momentum, he added.

  • JSW MG Motor India

JSW MG Motor India reported 9% year-on-year decline in retail sales at 4,644 units in June.

The automaker had retailed 5,125 units in June 2023.

The company's flagship SUV- ZS EV achieved the highest-ever monthly sales in June 2024, JSW MG Motor India said in a statement.

With over 40 per cent of total sales, at 1,861 units during the month, NEVs (new energy vehicles) continue to contribute a significant share to the company's overall sales, it added.
