The Shahjahanpur and Manoharpura toll plazas are part of the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) pilot project to enable barrier-free vehicular movement on national highways. The tender was awarded by the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL).

The MLFF system allows vehicles to be identified, classified and charged electronically without slowing down or stopping, using technologies such as Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID), ANPR, Dedicated Short-Range Communication, and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS).

With this contract, Jio Payments Bank has secured two of the five MLFF bids awarded so far, the company said in a statement.

The bank is already managing toll operations at 11 plazas across the country as an acquirer bank.

“Securing the contract to collect and process toll for an MLFF project is a significant milestone for JPBL, building on the foundation of its FASTag acquisition-based toll processing operations, which commenced in July 2025,” the company said.

JPBL said it is also exploring synergies with Jio Platforms to leverage its digital infrastructure and technology capabilities for highway toll management operations.

“Our expansion into the tolling ecosystem is a natural progression of our mission to digitise everyday payments and build smart financial infrastructure at scale,” said Vinod Easwaran, Managing Director and CEO of Jio Payments Bank.

“This milestone reflects our commitment to delivering seamless, citizen-centric financial services and driving access, efficiency, and inclusion across the country. By leveraging the synergy of digital capabilities with the group ecosystem, we are actively building capabilities to participate in the evolving mobility ecosystem in India,” he added.
