Reliance Jio has announced the launch of JioPC, a cloud-based virtual computing platform aimed at expanding digital access without the need for traditional hardware. The service is available to all existing and new JioFiber and Jio AirFiber users across the country, with subscription plans starting at ₹400 per month. A one-month free trial is also being offered.
JioPC allows users to convert any compatible screen into a functioning desktop system by connecting it to a Jio Set-Top Box, keyboard, and mouse. No physical CPU or additional installations are required. The setup process involves launching the JioPC app from the set-top box, registering, and logging in to begin.
Unlike traditional computers, JioPC functions entirely through the cloud. Users only need a Jio Set-Top Box, a screen, a keyboard, and a mouse to access the service. There is no requirement for a CPU or expensive hardware installation. Once the setup is connected, users can navigate to the JioPC app via the Apps section on the set-top box, register, and begin using the platform.
The company positions JioPC as a cost-effective alternative to conventional computing. With no upfront investment, users can access the performance and features typically associated with a PC worth ₹50,000 or more. Because all computing is handled in the cloud, the system is consistently updated, does not slow down over time, and eliminates the need for routine maintenance or upgrades.
The virtual desktop offers 512 GB of cloud storage and comes bundled with access to commonly used applications. Users can access the browser version of Microsoft Office, along with other key productivity tools. Jio has also partnered with Adobe to provide free access to Adobe Express - a web-based design and editing tool aimed at creators and students.
The platform is designed to remain current with the latest technology updates. As computing happens on Jio’s cloud infrastructure, software and security enhancements are automatically applied without user intervention. Instant boot-up and lag-free performance are among the technical features highlighted by the company.
Security is built into the system at the network level. According to Jio, JioPC includes protection against viruses, malware and external hacking threats, with no requirement for separate antivirus software.
The company says JioPC has been developed with a wide user base in mind, ranging from students and professionals to small business owners and home users. With no hardware ownership involved, the model aims to eliminate challenges related to depreciation, breakdowns, and outdated configurations.
JioPC operates on a pay-as-you-go pricing structure. There are no long-term lock-in contracts, and users can modify or cancel their subscriptions based on their requirements. The platform supports flexible upgrades, allowing users to adjust computing capacity as their usage grows. The idea is to enable digital access in a scalable manner, especially for households or businesses that do not require a permanent or high-end computer.
To get started, users need to:
The service also includes access to Jio Workspace and AI tools, aimed at improving productivity, creative output, and learning experiences. As computing needs evolve, JioPC is designed to scale accordingly, without the burden of hardware replacements or additional software purchases.
The rollout comes at a time when demand for flexible, secure, and low-cost digital infrastructure continues to grow across India, particularly in education, small-scale enterprise, and remote working environments.
