Internship opportunities in India double in 3 years, average stipend at ₹25,432 per month: Indeed report

Internship opportunities in India have doubled in the last three years as organisations are trying to hire young professionals with industry-ready real-world skills, as per a report by job platform Indeed.

Internships are becoming increasingly important as companies prepare to equip young talent with practical, real-world skills, the report said.

As per the data from global job site Indeed, India saw a jump of 103% in internship postings over the last three years between February 2022 and February 2025, highlighting the shift in trend and how businesses are focusing on internships to bridge the gap between academics and industry expectations. The report by Indeed is based on an analysis of data on its platform from February 2022 to February 2025.

As industries evolve amid the rise of AI, data analytics and digital transformation, companies are using internships to both provide hands-on experience to the youth and to identify as well as groom talented individuals right from the start, the report revealed.

State-wise analysis

As per the Indeed report, Delhi, Karnataka and Maharashtra top the charts for internship searches, accounting for 7.2%, 6.8% and 6.2% of the total searches, respectively.

Moreover, the average internship stipend in the country stands at ₹25,432 per month, but major cities including Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune and Gurugram offer stipends above the national average.

Chennai and Kolkata, on the other hand, fall on the lower end of the spectrum.
