Instagram users reported widespread disruptions for a brief period on Tuesday, with many unable to send messages, access their accounts, or view their feeds, according to outage-tracking website Downdetector. The platform began receiving complaints at around 9.30 am and outage reports peaked at 709 incidents at 10.38 am.
Users cited login failures as the most common issue, accounting for 41% of the complaints, while 40% faced server problems and 19% reported difficulties with their feeds.
Meta Platforms, the parent company of Instagram, has yet to issue at statement.
Downdetector collects outage reports from various sources, including user-submitted data, to track real-time disruptions. The nature and scale of the technical issues remain unclear.
On March 5, a technical issue left hundreds of thousands of Facebook and Instagram users worldwide unable to log in for over two hours. At the time, Downdetector received over 550,000 complaints for Facebook and 92,000 for Instagram.
At the time, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone acknowledged the issue on X, stating that a technical issue had affected access but was resolved shortly after. However, no further details on the cause were provided.
