Hurun India Future Unicorn Index 2024: Only three new startups added, 25 exit list; check details

SUMMARY

2024 witnessed a record drop in the number of startups from the Hurun future unicorn list. Among these were prominent ones such as Gaana, Koo, Rapido, Dunzo, Paper Boat, Dotpe and WayCool.

India currently houses 67 unicorns, 46 gazelles, and 106 cheetahs as compared to 68 unicorns, 51 gazelles, and 96 cheetahs last year.

The ‘Ask Private Wealth Hurun India Future Unicorn Index 2024’, a list that highlights start-ups that have the potential to become a unicorn with a valuation above $1 billion, saw as many as 25 startups drop out. Three achieved the status of unicorns.

‘Future Unicorn’ has been defined by Hurun as a startup founded in the 2000s that has reached a minimum valuation of $200 million, but is yet to touch $1 billion.

Of the 25 startups that dropped out, five were gazelles and 20 were cheetahs. Gazelles and cheetahs are startups that can become unicorns in three and five years, respectively.

The status of unicorns was achieved by Zepto, InCred Finance, and Porter. Ixigo was removed from the list as it went public on June 18.
