The Hero For Startups accelerator will aid mobility, clean tech, and deep tech innovators, offering R&D access in India and Germany, dealer and supplier networks, and paid proof-of-concept opportunities.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on Tuesday signed separate memoranda of understanding with quick-commerce company Zepto and Hero MotoCorp Limited to scale up early-stage startups across manufacturing, mobility and emerging technologies.

Under the MoU with Zepto, the ‘Zepto Nova’ innovation challenge will support startups in hardware, Internet of Things (IoT), packaging and sustainable manufacturing, the commerce ministry said in a statement.

The six-month programme will provide mentorship, workshops and market access, with a focus on women-led and Tier II and III city startups.

Zepto plans to integrate more than 100 Indian startups into its supply chain, giving them a platform to showcase products and expand their market presence, the ministry said.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by DPIIT Director Sumeet Jarangal and Zepto co-founder Kaivalya Vohra, who said the partnership would help build “the future of manufacturing” in India.

DPIIT Joint Secretary Sanjiv said that support from unicorns is one of the most impactful ways to uplift startups, enabling them to learn from the journey of successful ventures.

He added that it is not just an opportunity but also a responsibility for unicorns to contribute to the ecosystem.

In its partnership with Hero MotoCorp, DPIIT will back startups working on future mobility, clean technology and deep technology through the ‘Hero For Startups’ accelerator programme. Selected startups will gain access to Hero MotoCorp’s R&D facilities in India and Germany, its network of dealers and suppliers, and opportunities for paid proofs of concept.

“By connecting industry experience with grassroots innovation, we aim to fast-track the journey from idea to impact, especially in emerging technologies and Tier 2/3 markets,”Sanjiv added.

Hero MotoCorp Executive Chairman Pawan Munjal said the collaboration is in line with the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ and reflects the company’s role as “a nation-builder” committed to fostering a self-reliant and globally competitive India.
