The government has asked all domestic LPG consumers to complete biometric Aadhaar authentication (e-KYC), even as cooking gas refill bookings declined from recent highs amid the West Asia conflict.
In a post on X, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said domestic LPG consumers must complete biometric Aadhaar authentication (e-KYC) and can now do so from home through their oil marketing company’s mobile app along with the Aadhaar FaceRD application.
Consumers using Indane can complete the process through the IndianOil ONE app, Bharatgas customers through HelloBPCL, and HP Gas users via HP PAY.
The apps are available on both Android and iOS platforms.
The ministry said consumers can also contact their LPG distributors or call the toll-free helpline number for assistance.
Install the mobile app of LPG provider and Aadhaar FaceRD app
Register or log in using the mobile number linked to the LPG connection
Select the e-KYC option
Enter Aadhaar number and grant permission for authentication
Complete face authentication via Aadhaar FaceRD app
After successful verification, the system will confirm that the e-KYC process has been completed, and the LPG connection will be updated accordingly.
LPG refill bookings have dropped to about 77 lakh, down from 88.8 lakh recorded earlier, suggesting that the initial panic-booking has begun to ease.
In a daily update assessing the impact of the West Asia situation, the government said there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or cooking gas, and supplies across the country remain stable.
The update said online LPG bookings have increased to around 87% from 8%, which it attributed to a campaign by oil marketing companies encouraging digital booking and discouraging consumers from visiting LPG dealerships for panic purchases.
“All domestic refineries are operating at high capacity and maintaining adequate crude oil inventories,” the government said.
Oil marketing companies have also reported no dry-outs at fuel retail outlets or LPG distributorships.
The government has barred households that already have piped natural gas (PNG) connections from retaining or obtaining subsidised domestic LPG connections.
In a notification issued on March 14, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas amended the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2000 under the Essential Commodities Act.
Under the amended rules, consumers with PNG connections must immediately surrender their domestic LPG connections and will no longer be allowed to take refills from government oil companies or their distributors.
The order also prohibits oil marketing companies from providing new LPG connections or refilling cylinders for consumers who already have a PNG supply.
