Addressing world leaders at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Pichai said the Vizag facility will house gigawatt-scale computing capacity along with a new international subsea cable gateway, creating jobs and expanding access to advanced AI capabilities for businesses and communities across the country.

“Now, in Visakhapatnam, Google is establishing a full-stack AI hub, part of our $15 billion infrastructure investment in India. When finished, this hub will bring gigawatt-scale compute and a new international subsea cable gateway,” Pichai said.

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hosting the summit, Pichai described artificial intelligence as “the biggest platform shift of our lifetimes” and said emerging economies like India could use AI to leapfrog legacy development gaps.

He said Google is also expanding global connectivity through new subsea fibre systems, including four routes between the US and India under its America–India Connect initiative.

Warning against an “AI divide”, Pichai stressed the need for large-scale investments in compute infrastructure, digital connectivity and workforce training.

He said trust will be central to AI adoption, noting Google’s development of content authentication tools to help journalists and fact-checkers identify synthetic media.

Calling for closer collaboration between governments, industry and civil society, Pichai said policymakers must act both as regulators and innovators by deploying AI in public services to improve citizen outcomes.

“We have the opportunity to improve lives at a once-in-a-generation scale. Now we must do the work, together,” he said.

On Wednesday, Pichai announced that Google would roll out the America–India Connect initiative to build new strategic fibre-optic routes linking the United States, India and multiple locations across the Southern Hemisphere.

"Today, we are announcing the India-America Connect Initiative, which will deliver new sub-sea cable routes to increase AI connectivity between India and the US and multiple locations across the southern hemisphere," Alphabet CEO said at India Impact AI Summit.

The company also announced two $30 million grant programmes through Google.org.
