Google Gemini mobile app launched in 9 local languages; how to download

Google on Tuesday launched the mobile application of its artificial intelligence (AI) assistant Gemini in English and nine other Indian languages, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said.

The generative AI, which could be used for coding, schoolwork, or creative exploration, is available in English, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Gujarati, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu.

In a blog post, the company said, "Both the Gemini app and Gemini Advanced, which gives users access to Google's most capable AI models, will now be available in nine Indian languages, helping more people access information and complete tasks in their preferred language".

To access Google's AI offering, download the Gemini app from the Google Play Store or opt-in through Google Assistant. One can also use Gemini by corner swiping, saying "Hey Google," or hitting the power button on select smartphones.

On Apple's iOS, Gemini will be rolled out from the Google app in the coming weeks, so users can tap the Gemini toggle and start interacting with the AI.

Taking to Twitter, Pichai said, "Exciting news! 🇮🇳 Today, we're launching the Gemini mobile app in India, available in English and 9 Indian languages. We’re also adding these local languages to Gemini Advanced, plus other new features, and launching Gemini in Google Messages in English".

The Google Gemini app will allow users to chat, type, talk or add images to get the needed assistance. For example, you can take a picture of a flat tyre and ask for instructions to change it or write a congratulatory message.

The technology major also said that it is adding Indian local languages to Gemini Advanced, which is Google's most capable AI model along with will data analysis capabilities.

Additionally, Google is launching the functionality to chat with Gemini AI in Google Messages, starting in English.
