According to the revised guidelines issued by the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), FASTag services will no longer be automatically discontinued for non-compliant vehicles.

Users will now be given sufficient time and assistance to complete the KYV process, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement on Thursday.

Under the new rules, users of cars, jeeps, and vans will only need to upload a front picture showing the vehicle’s number plate and FASTag, eliminating the need to upload side photographs.

The system will also be able to automatically fetch registration certificate (RC) details from the Vahan database once the user enters the vehicle number, chassis number, or mobile number.

If multiple vehicles are linked to the same mobile number, users can select the specific vehicle for which they wish to complete KYV, the ministry said.

FASTags issued prior to the implementation of the KYV policy will remain active unless complaints are received about loose tags or misuse. Issuer banks have also been directed to send SMS reminders to users to complete the KYV process.

In cases where users face difficulties in uploading documents, issuing banks will contact customers and help them complete the process before any service disconnection.

Customers can also raise complaints or queries related to KYV by calling the National Highway Helpline at 1033.

“The simplification of the KYV rules is a part of NHAI’s commitment to enhance user experience, strengthen FASTag ecosystem and provide smooth and seamless experience to National Highway users on the National highway network across the country,” the ministry said.
