SUMMARY

The annual pass, available for non-commercial private vehicles, allows up to 200 toll crossings or one year of travel across about 1,150 national highway and expressway toll plazas.

The annual pass remains valid only on national highways and not on state-managed roads, where standard FASTag charges will apply.

Highway users opting for the FASTag annual pass will have to pay a slightly higher fee from April 1, days after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced the revised fee for the financial year 2026–27.

The annual pass fee will be increased to ₹3,075 from the current ₹3,000.

The revised rate will come into effect in two days, in line with provisions under the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008.

The FASTag annual pass is available for non-commercial private vehicles and allows users to travel across around 1,150 toll plazas on national highways and expressways without frequent recharges.

The pass is valid for one year or up to 200 toll crossings, whichever is earlier.

Introduced in August 2025, the scheme has gained traction among frequent highway users, with more than 56 lakh subscribers so far, according to official data.

To avail of the facility, vehicle owners must have a valid FASTag linked to their vehicle.

The annual pass can be purchased through the Rajmargyatra mobile application or the NHAI website, and is activated within two hours of payment.

The authority has said the revision is part of its routine annual fee adjustment mechanism.

The annual pass will only be valid at the national highway and national expressway toll plazas and not on regular expressways and highways that are maintained by the state governments or local bodies.

Since the annual pass will only be valid at national highway and national expressway fee plazas, the FASTag will work like the regular ones on state highways.

This means that on regular expressways and highways, users need to pay the usual fee as usual, which can be done through the same FASTag.

After a year or after 200 trips, users can reactivate the pass by paying ₹3,000 again.

The annual pass is non-transferable and is valid only for the vehicle on which the FASTag will be affixed and registered. The pass will only be activated if the FASTag is properly affixed to the windshield of the registered vehicle.
