Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis arrived at the BKC to inaugurate the showroom, which will serve as Tesla’s flagship retail and experience centre in the country.

"This is not just the inauguration of an experience centre but a statement that Tesla has arrived, a statement that it has arrived in the right city and state, that is Mumbai, Maharashtra," Fadnavis said at the event.

"Mumbai stands for innovation and sustainability...Tesla is not just a car and car company but stands for innovation and sustainability," he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Neeta Sarda, Principal Architect of the Tesla Experience Centre, said, “It was super exciting to be part of Tesla. I was very fortunate enough to get this project of doing the complete Tesla showroom and I am also doing their workshop. It's been a different journey because this was completely a hush hush, nothing had to be mentioned to anybody. The theme was very minimalist, they would love their cars to sell more than interiors but yes, the interior has to gel very well with the cars.”

Last week, Tesla received a go-ahead from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) here to display vehicles, allow test drives and sell its cars. The Andheri RTO formally issued a 'trade certificate' to the global EV giant.

Tesla Model Y price

Tesla’s Model Y is expected to be the first vehicle available for purchase in India.

As per the company’s website, the Model Y is priced at ₹61,07,190 on road in Mumbai, with deliveries slated to begin after September 2025.

The Model Y comes with a top speed of 201 kmph and can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 5.9 seconds. The EV promises a range of 500 km on a single charge.

The rear-wheel drive variant is priced at ₹59,89,000, while the long range rear-wheel drive variant costs ₹67,89,000.

The SUV will be available in six colours—stealth grey, pearl white, diamond black, glacier blue, quick silver and ultra red.

The India-specific Model Y features a black and white dual-tone interior with premium white upholstery, a matching dashboard accent strip, and a 15.4-inch touchscreen that serves as the command hub for navigation, entertainment and climate control.

With the launch, Tesla joins the growing list of global EV manufacturers setting up base in India to tap the nascent but rapidly expanding electric vehicle market.
