The apology follows a heated public feud between the two influential figures, involving personal attacks, political disagreements over tax legislation, and explosive claims from Musk, including a now-deleted post linking Trump to the Epstein files.

Billionaire Elon Musk has launched a fierce campaign against President Donald Trump’s signature legislation.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Wednesday expressed regret for some of his recent posts about US President Donald Trump, saying they "went too far."

“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” Musk posted on his social media platform X.

While the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX did not specify which comments he regretted, his post comes against the backdrop of a bitter exchange with Trump.

The highly publicised rift between the two influential figures escalated last week after Musk launched a fierce campaign against the US President’s signature tax-cut and spending bill, calling it a "disgusting abomination".

The verbal sparring began when Trump, during a White House meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, publicly criticised Musk for attacking the legislation.

The president lamented their frayed relationship, saying, “I’m very disappointed with Elon.”

Trump also asserted that he "would have won Pennsylvania regardless of Elon."

Musk responded within minutes on X, the social media platform he owns, claiming: “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate.”

The clash escalated further when Trump took to his Truth Social, suggesting Tesla’s lucrative federal subsidies and contracts should be cut.

“The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,” Trump posted. “I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it.”

The president also claimed he had personally asked Musk to leave the White House, and that the Tesla CEO “just went CRAZY!”

“Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY,” the president said.

Musk then levelled an explosive allegation.

"Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!" he posted on X, referring to a collection of documents, court records, and other materials related to the disgraced financier's criminal activities, which involved the sexual abuse and trafficking of underage girls and young women.

He later deleted the post.

The public fallout between the two influential figures didn’t go well with investors as Tesla shares plummeted 17%.
